The Proud American

I know my co-editor has a bit of an infatuation with Michelle Obama(lol) so his take on this will be interesting. . .

On Tuesday, in Brookfield, WI, Michelle Obama was quoted as saying:
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country … not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change,” she said. “I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. . . and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction."
There it is. I know that you know how and why people might blow up at that. Even John McCain's wife, Cindy, used Obama's words as political fodder and said at one of her husband's events, "I am proud of my country. I don’t know about you? If you heard those words earlier, I am very proud of my country. . ."

I'm not going to play the "race card" and ask you to consider all the reasons an African-American might possibly be have to not be proud in their country, like that whole slavery incident(note sarcasm). I am instead requesting you consider all the reasons an American has to not be proud of their country. Yeah, I'm grateful to here in these United States over any other place on Earth, but the War in Iraq, our economy, and most notably our foreign policies just kinda-sorta rub me the wrong way(note sarcasm again). That said, even though Mrs. Obama is proud at the time, let me be blunt- I am not at all satisfied.

I would say Mrs. Obama need watch her words and their wording, at least until after her husband takes the White House. I would also say that if your satisfied or proud of these United States at the moment, your just settling for mediocrity- but that's just me talking. . .

::UPDATE:: Tuesday February 25, 2008

So I turn on the television tonight and now they are attacking Obama with excerpts from her 1985 Princeton University senior-year thesis. The excerpt is as follows:
"I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don’t belong. Regardless of the circumstances under which I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second. . . further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant."
So now Michelle Obama is being attacked for discussing the society in which we live. It never ends. . .

  1. The words of Michelle have not hurt Baracks campaign... he is still steamrolling over Hillary...I think it shows truth and honesty for someone to show dissapointment in their homeland...it proves that you are not affraid to admit that there are imperfections that need to be improved..I must admit that Michelle's comments were not politically acute, speeches like the one she made could have potentially hurt Barack's campaign..BUT IT DIDNT...So leave my wifey alone...LOVE YOU MICHELLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. lol @ unhealthy obsession. . .smh

but yeah, i must agree. i think that for the most part, the only people getting upset are the ones that weren't going to vote for Barack in the first place

  3. Yeah, I agree that it probably wasn't the best choice of words but since no damage was done, it doesn't really matter anyways.

Right now, I can't really say that I see a lot of things about this country to be proud of. Let's see: we're stuck in a war we never should have started in the first place, the economy is awful and we're heading toward (if we're not already in one) a recession. The public education system is pretty much a shambles.

Nope I don't see a whole lot to be proud of. But then the whole reason why I'm pushing for Barack is so he can change all this.

  4. I see it like this, you are always proud of your family, but you know when they screw up, when what they do is just wrong. So yeah I proud of America, but at the same time I know where she is messing up and I will tell her that she is.

  5. This is a blatant attempt by McCain or Hilary supporters to smear my baby's good name, and to hurt Barack's campaign.have no fear Michelle, you know I got your back, and your front as well:)

  6. The problem with this statement isn't the statement itself. The words were def the wrong choice of words and i think as soon as the words came out her mouth she prob knew it. It didn't hurt the campaign, because she quickly explained what she meant the next day. However with the media hanginf on every word and action of each campaign like none other, it is easy to see how this blunder could of snowballed into something more then what it did.

4 Reasons Why BET Is An Embarrassment To Black People

1. BET(Black Entertainment Television) did not air Coretta Scott King’s funeral on it’s station. BET claimed it wanted to offer viewers a different kind of experience by posting a live webcast on it’s website of the funeral where viewers could access it "at work, at home, traveling,[and] at school". Likewise, the four major networks; NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX all broadcast their own live webcasts on their respective websites. But these stations as well broadcast the funeral on television. C-SPAN and CNN also aired the funeral live. This reason alone proves that BET is the epitome of trash on television. And not to equate the struggle of blacks with Coretta Scott King, but there would be no BET without her. BET felt that viewers would prefer to watch women shaking their rumps in music videos rather than some funeral for a beloved civil rights leader. 2. BET is not black entertainment television. It does not represent the views and ideals of the millions of Blacks in the United S...

Racism on Xbox Live

Anyone who knows me well, or well enough knows that I do my fair share of video gaming. Now honestly, I never thought that video games would have take the topic of discussion on The Black Salvage, but here we are. . . Your’s truly was playing Grand Theft Auto online via Xbox Live the other day. Those familiar with online console gaming will know that there is a ‘forum’ type area before matches begin, where players can communicate with each other if they have the headset and do things like talk trash. . . or. . . .call Your’s Truly a nigger, filthy nigger(while imitating a Southern accent), and nigger-lover. Why any of this was even necessary is beyond me. And the expletives I and others were called was not limited to just these. People were expressing their hatred of Jews as well as Hispanics. The token Asian slur was also thrown about. One person even told me, that “blacks are only good for peanut-butter and basketball”. One player told me that "black people can't afford Xbo...

Black Salvage Blog of the Month: "Fed Up"

I would like to present to Black Salvage readers the first regular segment to appear on the site, "Blog of the Month". The intent of these monthly pieces is quite simple really; to provide awareness of many of the great blogs and sites out there relevant to our focus. [Below is a sample of the type of pictures that appear on this month's "Blog of the Month]. The first "Black Salvage Blog of The Month" recipient is author of the thoughtfully racist web log "Fed Up", which is home to dozens of anti-black writings(here is a link, http://intolerant.wordpress.com). The author, who goes by the pen name "Intolerant" has been writing about his love of hating people of the African diaspora since November of 2005. Stories on the blog range from jokes to serious pieces on the all the supposed ills of black people in the author's opinion. Before the comments questioning my reasoning for entertaining such a blog come in, let me first ask you ...
